Happy Easter everyone. On behalf of APPDR's committee I hope that you and your family have the best of celebrations, restrictions permitting of course! For those of you in countries going through a 3rd wave of Covid, stay safe and lets all hope that things get better for you soon.
Elsewhere things are getting better as restrictions have brought the number of cases down and the vaccination programmes progress. We hope it is not too long now before you can all get back to our beautiful Praia del Rey.
Our estate has got even more beautiful this month. Two painting projects have been completed in Descobertas and in Aldeia Don Fernando, a new calçada footpath has been built behind the children´s playground, and the project to build new surrounds for all our green bins continues, with an end of April completion date. We have also quickly repaired some calçadas recently “re-arranged” by a delivery driver near Vila da Praia.
Improvements such as these, together with our security, road cleaning, common garden maintenance and fly spraying programmes are funded by the majority of home owners, the golf club and the hotel who contribute to our Annual Maintenance Programme. Thank you to all who contribute and I appeal to the minority who chose not to to reconsider this, everyone (residents and visiting renters) benfits from the programme and improvements.
Easter should see a change in flow of trucks leaving the quarry. Until now empty trucks have entered the quarry from a back road leading to the old turkey farm and filled trucks have left the exit close to our estate. After a major project inside the quarry the plan now is for both arriving and leaving trucks to use the “turkey farm road”. Hopefully our work is now completed on this and we will experience less dust, less noise and less road damage between our entrance and the Lavrador restaurant going forward.
We continue to lobby on the state of the PDR to Serra del Rei road and we are close to concluding our research into the gas network onsite, hopefully we will have news on these in my next newsletter.
Tim Jones has taken no time to form his Social Committee, it comprises of :-
Tim and Jackie Jones
Kevin and Joy Mendoza
Eamonn and Antoinette Witter
The committee will be meeting when rules permit to start planning a number of events when social distancing rules allow. On everyone´s behalf I thank you all for volunteering and I´m sure it will not be too long before we get back to some form of normality again.
Until next month
